We have been haggling over a head board for years now, and finally we both hit on the same page! Manuel came up with the idea and can you believe that I actually liked it??!! Our son, who is handy with tools, (unlike his father or mother) was making a trip to Lincoln to spend a few days. Anyway, I decided he could build this headboard for me. Manuel gathered up all the wood, I stripped a couple of the pieces, and had everything sanded, stained, and varnished for Jeremy to work his magic. Below is the beautiful finished project using balusters from the Packard / Jochim house and crown molding from another project. Jeremy then nailed it to the wall. I am thrilled with the look. Thanks Jeremy!!
- Finished Head Board
- Balusters from the Jochim house stairway that were not used in the Packard house. These were already stripped and sanded and ready for the stain.
- Staining the balusters. Varnishing these was challenging when going around the “key hole” to keep the varnish from getting too thick or running out the other side.
- The crown molding and base pieces had to be stripped and sanded and then all the wood was stained and then varnished with a water based polyurethane.
- The finished balusters. This type of work is always rewarding to watch a piece of wood go from ugly to beautiful.
- Crown molding which became the top of the head board.
- Jeremy putting it all together.
- Jeremy is a perfectionist like his Grandpa Lyle.
- The completed head board before installation.
- This makes the bedroom complete with the “Around The World” quilt I made with hand dyed fabrics in 2003.
